This was after the one hour nap (abnormally short) that she took. I didn't let her go back to sleep after though because her nap was so late (4 to 5pm) in the afternoon.

Happy. Bandaids and all.

2 year Checkup

Yesterday Aubrie had her much anticipated 2 year old check up with Dr. Straughn.  I was so worried about her having to get shots and how she would react.  She was super excited about going to the doctors office because she came to one of my appointments 2 weeks ago and was hoping we were going to see HER doctor... I told her that her turn was coming up soon.

She got all cutsied up and we went to the doctors.  She played with toys in the waiting room and then we went back to the room. She willingly got undressed and let me lay her on the table to get weighed but then got a little scared and jumped into my arms.  She was a little scared to get back on to be measured, but she did and was such a champ.  They checked her temperature and measured her head and then we headed back to room #4. We answered questions for the nurse and she clung to me for dear life.  I literally could not stand up without holding her in my arms, but she did fine.  Luckily I brought some crayons and a few toys to play with b/c we waited for the doctor to come for about a half an hour. Once he came in Aubrie did great once again.

I told Aubrie that the Dr. would feel her tummy and check her ears so I am pretty sure she knew what to expect so she was really good. He listened to her lungs and she sat perfectly still, he checked her ears (she moved her head and said "ouchie" each time he stuck the otospcope in her ears), he checked her eyes (lights out and flashes a light to see if she follows it w/ her eyes)(she said "it's dark in here." the dr. laughed and agreed), then he asked if he could check her tummy and she just stared at him... so we laid her down on my legs (i was holding her in my arms for the entire checkup) and she did great!! He said he was very impressed with her language and that she was doing fantastic with her motor skills (as far as what he could tell from the handout that I filled out!)  I was completely honest. I said only "sometimes" on the question that asked if she actually lift off the ground when she jumps! Haha!

I tried to prepare Aubrie for the 2 shots that she had to get, so I told her that it would pinch a little bit on her legs, but I don't think she fully understood cause the nurse hadn't come back in the room yet.  When the nurse came in I told Aubs it would be a quick pinch and then she would get Bandaids (which she is currently obsessed with- Thank you Caroline! ;)) to put on her legs and she was so excited about the bandaids that she was telling me the colors of them and that there were yellow birdies (Tweety Bird) and flowers on them. Then the nurse gave her the shots and she yelled "Ouchie, Ouchie!" probably twice for each leg and then there were probably 2 tears and I told her to look at her new bandaids and she was so excited! Then I gave her a PINK sucker and she was pretty much on Cloud 9.  She was so happy! It was much better than I had anticipated.

Her 2 year old stats were probably the most shocking part of the appointment!! My little chunky monkey isn't so chunky anymore!!

As of August 23, 2010 her stats are...

Weight: 23 lbs. (8th %)

Height: 31 and a half inches (5th%)

Head: 19  and one fourth cm (92nd%)

Dr. Straughn called her petite with a good size head for her big brain! He also said she is growing consistently and that we have nothing to worry about! :)

Feeling grateful for:

• my baby girl who will still snuggle with me for sometimes hours after a nap or in the mornings.
• the hardest working husband who is always on the go to support our family or others around him.
• a baby boy that is growing healthy and strong.
• a wonderful family back in Vegas/Reno/Henderson/Cheney/Sacramento/Toronto that I miss terribly. ;)
• wonderful friends that I have made in Dallas (...and beyond sad that one is moving too soon!)
• lifelong friends that I miss like crazy.
• warmed up Peanut M&M's and Hot Tamales (actually I wish I had self control and could stop eating them... nevertheless I am grateful for their tastiness!)
• Hearing Aubrie say her prayers (repeat what we say)... almost makes me cry every time...
• A free photobook from Picaboo if you haven't ordered one before... get on it before Aug. 31st!!
• iChat
• water bottles
• stretchy pants
• :) lots more things but that's all for now.

My mixer

Aubrie loves to help me cook... "mixing" is her specialty in the kitchen these days.

The other day she said "Mommy let's make a cake." She settled for brownies.

She has so much fun mixing and even lets me take a turn every once and a while.

She is also very good at cleaning up when she's finished.  

Not only does she clean the bowls and spoons, but she definitely makes sure to clean her little toesies. 

She could probably play in the sink all day if I would let her!

A few things

1) I know I only pretty much post pictures of my little Aubs, but since she's pretty much my life day in and day out, that's what you get. She loves playing with her friends so much and has really gotten into dressing up lately. She puts on this Minnie Mouse ears headband (compliments of Aunt Jess-Thanks!) backwards b/c she likes the veil in her face.  I think it's so funny, but she insists on having it that way.

2) Yes... you read the chair correctly... it says "Shelby."  I found the chair at a sweet estate sale a couple of weekends ago for a great price and am going to order a new cover for it, but for now it is commonly referred to around here as "The Shelby Chair." Aaron thinks we should leave it. Of course he does. Sidenote: about estate sales... some of my good friends here are awesome garage sale hunters so we have gone out a few times and I have learned a few tricks of the trade.  We have to get up super early on Saturday mornings, but it has been a lot of fun having mornings spent with just the girls and I have found some sweet little deals along the way!

3) This morning Aubrie asked me if we could make her a "Valentimne." So that's just what we did. We have a cute story from Grammie about a kitty cat named Nicky who gives all of his friends Valentines so I am pretty sure that's where the idea came from.  She had so much fun making it and putting lots of stickers on it.  We were on a crafting kick so we decided to make bunnies and a chick on a stick too... I will have to post more pics later. They are pretty cute!

4) School is going really well for Aaron as usual.  He is loving it... which I love.  It makes all the time, energy and costs seem so worth it.  He is super busy these days with school stuff and church stuff... working with the Young Men, and of course always being Superhusband and Superdad.  Aubrie gets so excited whenever he walks in the door and always runs over to him yelling "Daddy's home!!!"

5) I am feeling hugely pregnant (sorry no pictures... maybe I will have Aaron try to take one today)... we don't have too much longer to go. Aside from my constant nausea for about the first 15 weeks and then on and off feelings of wanting to puke, this pregnancy has been pretty darn great.  All of the sonograms have come back with good feedback and I passed my glucose test last week (no gestational diabetes!)... Yessss!! Right now I just feel lots of kicking ALL THE TIME! I am appreciative that he lets me know he's in there... it just sometimes makes me want to hurl. Ha! Oh and so do the horrible muscle spasms in my calfs. Blah!  Other than that life is so good.

6) I think we are pretty much set on the name Luke for the little man inside me.  We have always loved it and there isn't another name that either of us have been able to come up with that we like as much, so Luke it is... unless of course we see him and have some sort of epiphany.  We still haven't bought much for him... I guess that's just what happens when you're not the 1st kid.  We feel like since we have a swing and a carseat and a pack n' play and all the main big things there isn't much more to get... besides boy clothes and stuff like that... so we are slowly but surely working on that! Cute boy stuff isn't as easy to find and sometimes I catch myself wandering into the newborn baby girl section to look... weird huh?!! It's just so much cuter... but there are definitely cute boy things too... I am working on it... :)
